Double awards win for animated short films

Congratulations to Images & Sound’s 3D & Nuke compositor Dale (Kirsten) Pretorius who’s student short film Das Tub has been officially selected to screen in a number of the world’s leading Film Festivals and has now secured two wins. The first as The Best Short Short at the Aspen Shortsfest and second a Best Director Award at the 2011 Honolulu Film Awards, which recognises outstanding achievement in independent filmmaking globally.

Completed in eight weeks by Dale and a group of Advanced 3D students at Media Design School, Das Tub features high-end, motion picture quality CGI graphics integrated with live action footage. Kiwi screenwriter Nick Ward wrote the script and it was directed by 3D course leader and short filmmaker James Cunningham.

The short is a homage to submarine action films and charts a tumultuous series of ‘encounters’ for a submarine captain and his first lieutenant as they navigate a German U-boat into unknown waters. Click to view the short film Das Tub.
