New Zealand's First Truelight Certified Theatre

Images & Sound has recently upgraded their Digital Intermediate Grading theatre with
new technology from Filmlight and Christie.

Baselight Grading Theatre

Industry leading projector manufacturer Christie has supplied their new 2K DCI
compliant projector with a remarkable 45 bits or 35.2 Trillion colours. “It is amazing the
difference this projector makes. The increased resolution and contrast ratio means we
can see even more picture detail than before” comments senior colourist Paul
Lear
, “and client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.”

The improvements haven’t stopped there; Images & Sound’s grading theatre is the first
in New Zealand to be Truelight certified. “We want to give our clients the confidence
that we are providing the highest quality viewing environment for their Digital
Intermediate projects.” says Managing Director, Grant Baker.

Along with the projector upgrade Images & Sound has upgraded hardware and software
for their Baselight Grading system. The new software allows them to grade and play
Red Raw (.r3d) files without prior processing and hardware upgrades have meant faster
grading sessions and much faster file transfer between other collaborative suites in the
facility ensuring a seamless post production workflow.

Assistant colourist Alana Cotton now uses a Baselight Assist Station to help with the
ever the increasing data management requirements. “This system enables me to work
alongside Paul, pre-grading and managing files for our Film, Television and commercial
projects, greatly increasing the through put of the Grading Theatre. It’s tough to keep up
with Paul; he is committed to achieving the best possible results for our clients.”
